About

Fiona is a screen printer with a background in fashion and Charlotte escaped archaeology to pursue her passion for textiles and together they set up Sew What? A lunchtime club teaching hand sewing in primary and secondary schools.

Sew What? was initially set up to teach hand sewing in schools. We believe children of all ages should start sewing with proper needles. The projects in our classes and kits we sell have no pre-punched holes and come with all you need to start sewing (apart from scissors and enthusiasm!).

In 2018 we launched our Sewing Machine Kits. We were finding that new and enthusiastic sewing machine owners were at a loss of what to do with their sparkly new machines. Disappointed by the quality and scope of regular kits, we created simple but satisfying Sewing Machine Kits which make useful and beautiful things in playful colourways. Each kit helps new sewing machine owners to master vital skills: with their creative confidence boosted, a world of creativity opens up. Designed by us both and hand-screen-printed in London by Fiona, they aim to inspire people to delight in creative freedom.
